Blissful Fundraiser Benefits Four Local Blackstone Valley Schools
Despite the rain and cloudy skies, over 170 golfers representing 43 companies, took part in the 18th Annual “Company Open” Golf Tournament hosted by Blissful Meadows Golf Club last month. Many of the participants came out winners from the numerous contests and raffles throughout the day, yet only one company, Elite Financial Corporation, can claim the bragging rights as the 2009 Company Open Champions.
Blissful Meadows would like to thank the generous participants and sponsors of this yearly event, along with the many local businesses who so kindly donated items for raffles and auctions. Over $20,000 was raised for our area schools and related organizations focused on youth education and athletics.
The funds raised for the local schools will be used to further the education of many students.
A check for $7000 was donated to The Uxbridge Education Foundation in memory of Dan Stefanilo. These funds will be used for individual scholarships for Uxbridge students and grants for teachers.
The Blackstone Valley Tech’s HVAC Department received $5000 from this event. These funds will be used to foster clean energy initiatives. It will purchase materials needed for student projects such as the design and installation of ground-mount solar panel systems.
Over $3300 was donated to the Uxbridge Community Enrichment Program and will be used to pay for an online program called Study Island for grades K-8. Study Island is a web-based product that helps the students to master skills specific to the MCAS. The funds will also be used to pay for staff to join the MassPartnership for Healthy Communities' Youth Forum. This group will meet once a month for a full day of training on youth related social issues.
The Northbridge High School received $3000 of the proceeds, to be used to present the program “Rachel’s Challenge”. Rachel Scott, the first victim in the Columbine High School Shootings, touched the lives of thousands with her kindness and compassion. Inspired by her many journal writings, her message is spread through powerful educational presentations positioned to inspire, equip and empower students at every level to make a difference in their world. This program will showcase experts in a variety of topics; such as social-emotional skill training, antidotes for bullying, social aggression and harassment, violence prevention and leadership development.
The Douglas High Schools Athletics and Booster Club received the final $2000 from the proceeds to be used for equipment needed in the Athletic Department.
The entire Bliss Family would like to thank all of the local participants for their ongoing commitment to support youth sports and education programs within our communities.
